John and brother Ray went West on a harvest excursion in 1923.
In 1924 they went over to Bridgewater ME as older brother Clayton and his wife May were living there. They worked as labourers on farms for a time. Later John A. moved to Rumford Falls ME to work in the Oxford Pulp Mill. He was a stationary engineer at Eastern Main General Hospital in Bangor ME for 25 years.
Farmed at Hampden ME for a time. After leaving the farm, John spent some time in Bridgewater ME with brother Ray and family. Returned to Bangor and worked at the Dow Air Base for 12 or 13 years. Retired in 1967.
Ploughed gardens for folk in Bangor ME and raised a splendid garden of his own.
