Amazia Dow Yerxa

Notes about Amazia Dow Yerxa

Amazia stayed with his mother and step-father Enoch Gilbert. Lived with his brother Samuel's family at Lower Woodstock, and then with his sister Ella's family. Later he lived alone in a small cabin near his brother.

Amazia was very handy with a pocket knife, making tops from old thread spools and willow whistles for all the young nieces and nephews to entertain them when their parents were busy. He could play tunes on the "jews harp" as well.

When he was very young, before his family moved from Union Corner, he fell into a well. He was taken out "more dead than alive", but survived.
