About Woodford Yerxa

Woodford Yerxa, native of Mouth of Keswick, who had been successful in business in Cambridge Mass and Boston, died on Sat. night, July 17, at his home in Cambridge.

The late Mr. Yerxa was a son of the late James Yerxa and was upward of 60 yrs. old. As a young man he was engaged in lumbering operations with his father and he married Miss Mina Hallett, dau. of Josiah Hallett of Mouth of Keswick. Shortly after being married he left Keswick and went to Woodstock where he carried on a general store business for some years.

Then he sold out his business at Woodstock and removed to Boston where he engaged in the grocery business and became very successful. He operated 4 stores in Boston and Cambridge and three years ago retired and sold out to go into the banking business becoming president and general manager of the Guaranty Trust Company of Cambridge.

During the recent period of difficulties for various banking institutions in Boston and other Massachusetts cities, when several banks were forced to close their doors, Mr Yerxa successfully guided his bank over the troubles and told his friend Mr Colter, who happened to be in Boston at the time, that he was prepared for a run of from $1,000,000 to $2,000,000 if necessary.

Mr. Yerxa had been serious ill for some time, and for the past month his condition has been so critical that his recovery had not been expected.

Besides his widow, the late Mr Yerxa is survived by one daughter, Miss Bertha Yerxa; one brother, Leonard Yerxa, of Mouth of Keswick; and two sisters, Mrs Holts of Presque Isle ME and Mrs Frank Bird of Woodstock NB also survies. Mrs. W. T. McLeod of this city is a cousin.

The remains will be brought here from Cambridge, arriving at noon tomorrow and being taken to Keswick for burial.
