Notes About Mark Yerxa

Written by Helen Trask

The Mark Yerxa family lived on a farm in Green Hill NB for some years. The story goes that before the thir child was born (there were already two girls), Mark said that if the new baby were a boy they would remain on the farm; if a gril, the would move to Fredericton. Bertie, a girl, was born March 20, 1888, and in that year the family moved to the city.

Mark was a labourer in Fredericton. Rachel was an accomplished seamstress and took in sewing.

The family went to Maine in the early 1900's and lived in the Lewiston area before moving to Wilton. In Wilton, Rachel Yerxa ran a boarding house and Mark did work as a handyman.

Rachel died on October 31, 1915, after being ill only a few hours. Mark then lived with his daughter Pearle for some time where presumably Mark helped her with the heavy work.

Mark Yerxa returned to Canada -- Stanley. In the early 1920's his son Frank with his family moved to Canada and they lived there until Mark's death at Stanley.
