Parish of Fredericton 1851 Census lists Sarah Goff (Gough) 56 years. Joseph is apparently dead. Martin Goff listed as 38 years was a Ferryman. This would make him born about 1813. His wife, Sarah Goff, 23 years, their child, James Goff, 2 years. Others in Sarah and Joseph's family are John Goff, 27; Wellington Goff, 23; William Goff, 21; Jane Goff, 18; Charles Goff, 14. (More research is needed) Sarah (Yerxa) Goff (Gough) died in the decade between 1851 and 1861.

Martin Gough was the son of Sarah (Yerxa) Gough and Joseph Gough. According to the 1851 Fredericton census, Martin was 38 years of age, so probably born in 1813 or 1814. He married Sarah (surname unknown). His occupation was ferryman and trucker (with horses).
The spelling of the name changed from “Goff” to “Gough” in the decade between 1851 and 1861.
He states English as racial origin and his religion as Church of England. They came from Normandy.
There is a great inconsistency between ages given from one census to another, which makes it very difficult to determine even approximate ages or dates.

Charles Gough was the son of Sarah (Yerxa) Gough and Joseph Gough. He was born in 1842 and was living in Kings Ward, Fredericton Parish in 1851 census. His occupation is stated as millwright or millman; English for racial origin and Church of England in religion. He was living in the house of Mrs. Jane Whelphley, a widow, in 187l. Jane Whelphley was probably his sister and had three children: Osmond, Mabel, and Ida. She had been widowed sometime between 1861 and 1871.
